Get, And Use, a 3rd-Party Password Manager

If you already have, and you use, a password manager, then you can skip the rest of this page. Go directly to the next section.

You are going to have a lot of accounts associated with your new WordPress Website.

You want to use lengthy, complex passwords to protect your data, but you don’t want to write them down or have to type them in every time.

(FYI: Rick has over 500 accounts with login IDs and passwords. There is no way he can manage that with pen and paper.)

Many web browsers come with a basic password manager. That’s not very good, but it’s better than re-using the same password or using a simple password.

A password manager will allow you to access your passwords across different browsers and different devices that you use. It will help you create secure random passwords, then save them in an encrypted form. Finally, it will fill the blanks when you go to a login page.

Here are some new accounts you will be using:

  • Google/Gmail
  • Domain Registration
  • Web Hosting Provider
  • cPanel
  • WordPress (Master Account)
  • WordPress (Admin Account)
  • WordPress (User/Writer Account)
  • WordFence | Mailchimp
  • The videos below talk about LastPass as being “affordable.” I am using a plan that is completely free.
  • I do not recommend using LastPass on a cell phone, whether it’s Android or an iPhone
  • Lastpass works on all your devices, and it is free if you use it on only one type of device. Here are examples of types of devices:
    • computers (desktops and laptops) ~or~
    • phones ~or~
    • tablets/iPads

(10 min) Steve Dotto gives an overview of password managers in general and LastPass in particular.

(20 min) If you “show more” of the description you will find a table of contents with time marks.

A password manager saves time and makes account management easier!

Here are other 3rd-party password managers that other people have reviewed and recommended. It’s great if you are already using one of them! Just don’t rely on your browser.

  • LastPass
  • 1Password (not free)
  • Bitwarden
  • Dashlane
  • KeePass (KeePassXC)
  • RoboForm (Premium version only)

We haven’t taken the time to explore them. LastPass is adequate for our needs.
